THE KOREAN CHURCH MISSIONS TO THE REPUBLIC OF KENYA (02)

Although the government of Kenya took over all mission-sponsored
schools, numbering about 5,000 in 1968, the authority of government
has allowed mission personnel to continue to participate in administ-
ering and staffing the schools. Hospitals likewise are allowed to
continue to operate with some government support and some mission su-
pervision. Therefore the mission activities in Kenya are free.

2. THE KOREAN CHURCH MISSIONS TO KENYA

Korean Church missions to Kenya could not help being late because
the Korean Church had had a short history in comparison with the Wes-
tern countries as the Britain and the United States of America.

Korea has accepted the Gospel of Christ through American missionaries
as Rev. H.G. Underwood and Rev. H.G. Appenzeller in 1885. After then
Korean Church had no room to be interested in any overseas missions.
But Korean church has begun to concern about the missions abroad si-
nce the end of 1960's because She had already grown in some measure
at that time. From that time, Korean Churches began to open their
eyes to the world missions.

In 1969 Rev. Hee Min Park the Presbyterian missionary which belongs
to the General Assembly of Presbyterian Church in Korea had ever been
sent to Kenya by the Department of the same Denomination Mission. He
had begun to work in that country as a missionary for the Korean res-
idents in Kenya and the naitives of Kenya. He is now working at the
Young Rak Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles. He had had a good expe-
rience in this kind of Third World Mission for three years.

In 1976 Sang Ki Eun, Eui Joo Kirn, Seung Bok Baek and Eung Soon Kirn,
the Phisician missionaries were sent by the Independent Presbyter-
ian Mission under the Bible Presbyterian Church penetrated Kenya. They
had been working at the Christian Hospital located in Wangi.

After that, a couple of Jong Pyo Lim, a missionary had been sent by
the General Assembly of Presbyterian Church in Korea to Kenya in 1981
and was able to work at the Nairobi Korean Chrurch. They began to get
into the mission activities for the naitives. They stayed in Mombasa
