THE KOREAN CHURCH PLANTING IN THE REPUBLIC OF BRAZIL (02)

2. THE KOREAN CHURCH PLANTING IN BRAZIL

1) HISTORY OFIMMIGRATION

Some people whose names were Soo Jo Kirn, Chang Soo Kirn, Jung Chang
Lee had for the first time emigrated to Brazil from Korea. After the
June 25th Incident of Korea, fifty five persons including Suk Keun
Kirn, and Bong Yup Lee came to Brazil passing through India in 1957.

Since 1959 established a closer relationship between two countries
the Koreans could emigrate to Brazil. At that time Korean government
had the positive policy of immigration to the South America includ-
ing Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil. In 1961 15 families of Korean
people arrived in the Brazil as an advance party of the immigrants.
In 196317 families, in 196468 families of the Korean people arrived
in Brazil. And now the Korean immigrants number 10,000 in 1982.

2) THE KOREAN CHURCH IN BRAZIL

There are a lot of Christians in immigrants who have lived in the
South America. Most of them began to serve their God through worship
and prayer at home at the begining and established the churches. In
portion to the increase of the immigrants the number of the churches
have gradually multiplied. At present there are 16 churches, and the
future prospects are bright in the increase of the church.

Of the Korean Churches have the Korean Presbyterian United Church
at the first time been established around Chung Hyuk Kirn in 1964. At
first, this church began to serve God at the Korean Community office
in Sao Paulo. At that time Her first Pastor was Myung Chul Moon. But
the Church suffered from internal trouble after a white. The result
was that the Church was divided into two churches in 1965.One of the
churches was the Central Church which has been established around
Elder Kwon Soon Kuk in 1965. At the begining this Church served to
God at a Lutheran Church in that city, and had been committed to
Pastor Chung, Kil Soo from Februray 1967. He had worked in that chu-
rch during about one year, and then left the church.
