Small/Cell Group Principles

Small/Cell Group Principles

The small/cell group principles must be based on the biblical and theological foundation even though those are somewhat differentiated according to the pastor's philosophy of ministry. And also small group principles may be differentiated according to the context of the ministry field. Peter C. Wagner called this specific situation "consecrated pragmatism" (Wagner 1987, 29). This is very important for the pastors of local church to develop and promote the growth of their church.

Dale E. Galloway has suggested twenty-one principles for the home cell group. Those may be summarized as follows:

(1) Three elements, that is to say, sharing, conversational prayer, and application of Bible,

(2) Participation with goal of leader, arrangement of people and rule,

(3) begin and close with conversational prayer,

(4) respond lovingly to a need expressed...immediately,

(5) the Bible as their authority and guidebook,

(6) encourage sharing in the group,

(7) no doctrinal discussion,

(8) practice mutual edification,

(9) Lead in love,

(10) follow-up on members,

(11) caring new members alive and growing,

(12) handle problem people,

(13) don't allow people to conffess anyone's faults but their own,

(14) don't allow anyone to do all the talking,

(15) tune up spiritually tehmselves,

(16) keep learning,

(17) hang loose and maintain a relaxed spirit,

(18) A good sense of humor is allowed,

(19) Ask for help when needed,

(20) ask for pastor's help when needed,

(21) It's Christ who does the leading (Galloway 1986, 111-122).

The reason why the writer introduces Galloway's principles for the home cell groups is that Rev. Galloway has greatly succeeded in his ministry using the home cell group and that the principles have included many gracious, lovingly and practical elements.
